Merck will promote their new 80 mg Zocor (simvastatin) tablet as an alternative to Lipitor(atorvastatin).

When the Zocor dose reaches 80 mg it lowers LDL about 47%...and reduces triglycerides about 36%. It's approx equivalent to using Lipitor 40 mg.

Keep in mind that these higher doses are more effective...but cause more hepatotoxicity.
