Who should get Gardasil 9 instead of Gardasil? CDC doesn't state a preference, but lean toward Gardasil 9 due to its added benefit...especially for females. The 5 extra strains in Gardasil 9 protect against 15% of HPV cervical cancers...and 4% of HPV cancers in males.
If a patient has had Gardasil, should they get Gardasil 9? Give Gardasil 9 to COMPLETE a 3-dose series started with Gardasil OR Cervarix. But don't give Gardasil 9 if the 3-dose series has been completed.
