The question about whether OTC phenylpropanolamine is safe has been coming up for years.
Now the FDA wants new warnings for all OTC products containing the stimulant/decongestant phenylpropanolamine (PPA). They'll appear on products for colds, allergies, and nasal congestion (Dimetapp, etc)...as well as OTC diet pills (Acutrim, Dexatrim).
The new warnings will tell patients not to exceed recommended doses...and not to take the product with other products that contain PPA or similar drugs...phenylephrine, pseudoephedrine, or ephedrine.
