Reps will be promoting tigecycline (Tygacil) for community-acquired pneumonia (CAP).
It's now approved for this use in hospitalized patients who aren't in the ICU...but it's usually not the best choice.
The usual empiric therapy for these patients is monotherapy with levofloxacin or moxifloxacin...or a combination of a beta-lactam plus macrolide.
