Zelnorm (tegaserod), a new drug for irritable bowel syndrome

Novartis will soon market Zelnorm (tegaserod), a new drug for irritable bowel syndrome.

Zelnorm is the first in a new class...5-HT4 serotonin partial agonist. It STIMULATES bowel motility to reduce abdominal pain...bloating...and constipation. It's for CONSTIPATION-predominant IBS.

This is different from Lotronex, which is a 5-HT3 serotonin antagonist that SLOWS bowel motility...for DIARRHEA-predominant IBS.
