The FDA is requiring a new warning on OTC Monistat (miconazole) vaginal products about an interaction with warfarin.
An interaction between warfarin and SYSTEMIC "azole" antifungals has been recognized for years. These antifungals can inhibit warfarin metabolism and increase its anticoagulant effect.
An interaction with miconazole VAGINAL products is much rarer...only a few reports of increased INRs or bleeding.
