High-dose ranitidine (Zantac) usually ISN'T more effective than standard doses for gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD).
Managed care organizations often recommend starting with ranitidine 150 mg BID for 6 to 8 weeks...then increasing the dose to 300 mg BID if symptoms persist.
