Lean Away From using Gliptins in Heart Failure
Questions will come up about how to treat type 2 diabetes in heart failure patients...since some meds may cause or worsen heart failure.
Start with metformin in most heart failure patients. It improves outcomes...and lactic acidosis fears are overblown.
Then add meds that AREN'T associated with heart failure...an SGLT2 inhibitor, or "flozin," (Jardiance, etc), GLP-1 agonist (Byetta, etc), sulfonylurea, or insulin.
