A new drug called Pylera and a sequential drug regimen are raising questions about the best treatment for H. pylori.

Triple therapy with a proton pump inhibitor, clarithromycin, and amoxicillin BID is one of the most effective regimens for H. pylori. Prescribe a 10- to 14-day course to reduce treatment failure.

Quadruple therapy works as well as triple therapy, and is an alternative for patients who are allergic to penicillin. But the downside is more pills...and they're taken up to QID.
