The FDA just approved single-dose or three-day regimens of Zithromax (azithromycin) for acute otitis media in children.
Before now, the only single-dose drug approved for acute otitis media was IM Rocephin (ceftriaxone).
Children can now take 10 mg/kg/day of Zithromax for 3 days...or a single dose of 30 mg/kg. This means you can give 150 mg to 1500 mg over 3 days...or all in one dose.
