Nexium, a follow-up to their Prilosec proton pump inhibitor
AstraZeneca is now launching Nexium, a follow-up to their Prilosec proton pump inhibitor.
Nexium (esomeprazole) is just the S-isomer of Prilosec. Prilosec (omeprazole) is a mixture of S- and R-isomers.
The S-isomer is metabolized slower. This leads to higher and more prolonged drug concentrations and longer acid suppression.
