Most experts recommend acutely lowering systolic BP to less than 140 mmHg. This is based on limited evidence that a lower BP goal may reduce disability...and doesn't lead to harm.

Now new evidence suggests rapidly lowering systolic BP to less than 140 mmHg does NOT improve outcomes compared to higher targets. And it may increase serious adverse events such as acute renal failure.
