People are hearing about an ORAL insulin called Oral-lyn. It's not approved in the U.S. yet...but is available in a couple of other countries.
Oral-lyn is actually an oral SPRAY...not an oral tablet. Patients spray it into their mouth and the insulin is absorbed from the inner cheek. Each spray provides 10 units of insulin.
Oral-lyn will be an alternative to short-acting mealtime insulin. It has a fast onset and short duration similar to the rapid-acting insulins...Humalog, NovoLog, and Apidra.
