Rectiv (REK-tiv) will be the first low-dose nitroglycerin ointment approved for pain caused by anal fissures.

Nitroglycerin (NTG) is often used as a "chemical sphincterotomy" to help relax anal sphincter tone and reduce pressure.

Pharmacies have been compounding nitroglycerin 0.2% and 0.4% ointment for anal fissures. Rectiv will come in the 0.4% strength.
