Sleeping with soap will ease restless legs syndrome.

Patients who have restless legs syndrome are trying anything to get a good night's sleep. They wrap heating pads around their legs in bed, run hot or cold water over their legs, rub or hit their legs, etc. But the most interesting technique is placing bars of soap under the bed sheets.

This remedy is based on an old wive's tale. People are told to place one bar of unwrapped soap on both sides at the foot of the bed. People who swear by it don't even have a theory of how it might help. Some say it works with any soap except Dove...others say it only works with Ivory.

Tell people there's no evidence that sleeping with soap works. But don't discourage people who say it works. There's no harm done if it helps them get a good night's sleep.
