Comtan is a COMT inhibitor...in the same class as Tasmar (tolcapone). But Comtan isn't expected to have the same problems with hepatotoxicity as Tasmar.

COMT inhibitors slow the breakdown of levodopa...resulting in more stable and prolonged serum concentrations. This helps smooth out the response to levodopa.
