Researchers have now discovered a new hepatitis virus...hepatitis G. It is causing some of the cases of post-transfusion and community-acquired hepatitis.

Hepatitis G seems to be a distant relative of hepatitis C. About 25% of patients who have acute hepatitis C also have hepatitis G.

Hepatitis G can lead to chronic hepatitis with cirrhosis.
